Features

Messaging

  • Send messages to employers directly from job listings.
  • Some job listings include employer contact details for direct messaging.

Read receipts

  • Messages display as 'read' or 'unread'.
  • You'll know whether employers have seen your message.

Online status

  • Employers can see a green dot next to your name when you're online.
Tip: Turn on read receipts and online status from your communications settings.

Actions

Access your messages

  • Open the app or browser to view your Inbox.
  • If a message doesn't appear, check your personal email for a copy.

Follow up on an application

  • Some employers let you start a conversation after applying.
  • Check the job description for the employer's contact details if you can't message them through Indeed.

Archive messages you no longer need

You can't delete messages from your inbox. Move them to the Archive folder if you no longer need them.

On mobile

  • Swipe the message or tap the three dots.
  • Tap Archive.

On desktop

  • Click or tap the three dots next to the message.
  • Select Archive.

Report a message or phishing attempt

Use the Report spam feature to report conversations that aren't about work.

Troubleshooting

Issue: I opened a new message and got a 'Something went wrong' error.

Solution: This is usually a system error. Try clearing your cache and cookies, then restart your device or browser.

Issue: the message doesn't load.

Solution:

  1. Check your email inbox for a copy of the message.
  2. Close and reopen the app or browser.
  3. Try again later.

Issue: my messages appear frozen with a blue banner: 'Messaging this employer is currently disabled. Please check back later.'

Solution: messages may be frozen for privacy reasons while the employer account is under moderation review.

Issue: I am missing messages.

Solution: You may have more than one account. Check the email address associated with your Indeed account.

FAQ

Question: I sent a message by mistake. Can I unsend or undo it?

Answer: No. Unfortunately, this option is not available.

Question: I've got more than one account on Indeed. Can I open a message sent to one of my accounts using another account?

Answer: No, you must use the account linked to your application.

Question: Does Indeed offer tools to help write messages or letters?

Answer: Yes. For a variety of templates and examples, review the Indeed Career Guide.

Question: I received a message inviting me to apply. Is this real?

Answer: Maybe. Employers can message you if your CV is set to Employers can find you on Indeed, and you've been active on Indeed for at least 30 days.
