Profile and Preferences: What Do I Share with Employers?

Quick summary

When you create an account on Indeed, we want to be clear about the information employers can access. This page explains what you share with employers when you set your profile settings to “Employers can find you” or when you search and apply for jobs.

Employers can find you

Change your profile privacy status in your profile settings to help employers find you on Indeed. You’ll share the following information:

Contact information

  • City and province/territory
  • Name, but only after you respond to an employer’s message

Resume

You can upload a resume file or build an Indeed Resume. These are the fields you can complete:

  • Work experience
  • Education
  • Skills
  • Certifications
Important: If you have an Indeed Resume and a resume file linked to your profile, employers will only have access to the Indeed Resume.

Qualifications

Employers may be able to see your qualifications.

Online status

Employers can see when you edited your profile and when you last visited Indeed.

Important: Employers who received your resume before you changed your profile settings may still have access to your resume details.

Searching for a job

Employers can’t access your search history or job alerts, and they don’t have access to your saved jobs.

Applying for a job

When you apply for an employer’s job on Indeed, they’ll have access to the following information:

Location

Employers can see the city and province/territory you provide on your resume.

Phone number

Employers can only access the number on your resume, which may differ from the one linked to your Indeed account.

Indeed alias

We create an email alias to help protect your email. Emails sent to this alias will be delivered to your inbox.

Resume

Employers can see the information on the resume you used to apply.

Qualifications

Employers may be able to see your qualifications.
