Indeed Job Seeker Guidelines

Indeed aims to provide a positive, professional environment for employers and job seekers to connect and determine if a job opportunity matches a job seeker’s specific qualifications and interests.

Indeed provides these guidelines to help enhance your experience on the site and to help foster professional communication between you and the employer.

Please keep in mind that violating one of the guidelines could result in your account being closed.

Be Professional:

  • Use a professional and polite tone in all communications with employers. Maintain a respectful and courteous demeanor throughout the process.
  • Strive to respond to communications in a timely manner and communicate if you wish to discontinue further discussion.
  • Do not use obscene, profane, or vulgar language in resumes or communications.
  • Do not be discriminatory or use discriminatory or hateful language in resumes or in communications.
  • Do not share information irrelevant to employment purposes on resumes or while communicating with employers.
  • Do not send inappropriate responses to employers that are not relevant to the job search process.

Represent Yourself Honestly and Respect Confidentiality:

  • Do not post a resume on behalf of someone else, falsely represent yourself, or impersonate another person or entity.
  • Do not solicit business from employers in communications or send applications advertising goods or services.

Be Safe and Aware:

  • Exercise caution and discretion when asked for personal information or sensitive details beyond the needs of discussing a specific employment opportunity.
  • Respect confidentiality when discussing any sensitive or proprietary information with third parties.
  • Verify and research an employer to confirm the opportunity is safe and legitimate. See here for recommended safe job search practices.
  • Report suspicious activity or inappropriate behavior from an employer.
  • Indeed discourages general outreach or non-specific job opportunity outreach, such as newsletters. Report incidents of irrelevant outreach.
