Fixing Hide My Email: Signing In, Applying, and Getting Messages

Quick summary

Apple's private email relay service masks your email address to protect your privacy and block spam. The downside is that this service might create sign-in issues or problems receiving employer emails. This page explains more about this feature, how it could impact your experience, and how to troubleshoot it.

Important: We’re improving the Apple sign-in process. Thank you for your patience as we gradually roll out these changes.

What is Apple's Hide My Email?

Have you noticed an unfamiliar email address when you sign in using your Apple device? It might be because you're using this Apple feature.

Apple masks your email address.

  • Apple ID users sign up using a unique address, which Apple generates.
  • Apple forwards select emails to your Apple ID email inbox.
  • Hide My Email manages all your random email addresses from any Apple ID-enabled device.

This feature might impact your application experience.

Job seekers have reported these problems with Hide My Email:

  • Not receiving employer emails or messages
  • Not being able to go to the next step in the application process
  • Missing saved or applied jobs in My jobs
  • Creates a new account

Not sure if you're using Hide My Email?

See Account settings for your email address. Look for an email address with this ending:

  • @privaterelay.appleid.com

Fixing Hide My Email issues

Current and new accounts

  1. Look for the Email section in Account settings.
  2. You use this privacy feature if the account email ends in privaterelay.appleid.com.
  3. Click or tap Change email and Save.
  4. Check your inbox to Confirm.

What’s the impact?

Changing your account email means:

  1. You can’t use Hide My Email using this email address again.
  2. You can still use Continue with Apple to sign in.

Applying for a job? You may want to make a change.

As an optional step, you can change your email from the one ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com to something else.

To apply for a job, changing your email address isn't required.

Job seekers have reported that Hide My Email can block messages from employers. If you choose to, here's how to change your email address linked to your Apple ID:

  1. Click or tap the Change email.
  2. This action opens the Security settings section in your account.
  3. Follow the prompts in your account.

Select "Share My Email" when creating a new account.

This iPhone setting allows you to share your email address with apps, websites, or services when signing up or logging in. This feature contrasts with Hide My Email, which generates a random, private email address.

With "Share My Email" enabled, your email is shared with Indeed.

This feature allows employers to communicate directly with you without forwarding your message to a random address.
